THE CREATIVE ARTS ENDOWMENT

What is the Creative Arts Endowment?

The Endowment was given to enhance the quality and diversity of our worship through
the arts in its many forms. The Endowment has enabled us to experience new
expressions of worship not normally possible for the smaller family-style church.

What is the goal of the Endowment?

The goal is always to bring people into the presence of our God and grow in our
relationship with the Lord - not to have "performances" in our church - because we
believe true worship is transforming and a genuine encounter with God.

What does this look like?

To meet these goals, we hire outside of the church for special creative arts. We have had
Wheaton conservatory students play, sing, or arrange music in the worship, or had whole
ensembles or choirs perform. We also hire actors for full length plays.  in Spring of 2008
we did Proof - a play that dealt with mental illness and death (roles played by students
from Wheaton College and members of our congregation) and then followed the play
with a forum discussion of these issues after each performance. This Spring we will
doing the play "Objects of the Cross" on Good Friday at 7:30 pm.   We have
underwritten beautiful banners to enhance the worship atmosphere of the sanctuary, and
have brought guest artists who lead the congregation through dance and other forms of
artistic interaction. We look for ways to celebrate the uniqueness of worship from a
variety of different styles and cultural expressions to the glory of God.

We also hire choir section leaders, praise team worship leaders, and a Drama Director.
These positions (as well as others) are for those interesting in becoming a committed part
of our church family.

How do I learn more about sharing the arts with this church?
